It’s that time of year again!
As many of you know, I love planning ahead. Each year, I update my ‘Literacy Calendar’ to include key dates, competitions, book awards, events, and special days that inform my school planning. I’ve had a 3 year break from the calendar as I’ve been busy raising my own little ones but as I am returning to school in September, I am also returning to my trusty literacy calendar to help me prepare!
I originally started the Literacy Calendar because I often found out about amazing events and competitions far too late, leaving us scrambling to pull something together at the last minute. I wanted to be proactive and strategically plan and embed literacy events throughout the year to raise the profile of reading and writing across the school. This resource has since become one of the most downloaded on my blog, and I am thrilled to share it with you again!
This special Summer edition focuses on key dates for the Summer holidays and the transition back to school in September. It features a mix of writing and reading competitions, events, and book awards for primary pupils. Each event includes a date, a brief description, and relevant links to help you kick start Summer reading and writing initiatives and integrate these opportunities into your back-to-school transition planning.
I hope this Summer calendar inspires meaningful, purposeful, and enjoyable reading and writing experiences over the summer months – the full Literacy Calendary for 2024-2025 will be available very soon! It takes a long time to pull together and I’m hoping to have it ready for you before everyone breaks up for Summer. Fingers crossed!
I am excited to share the Literacy Calendar with everyone for FREE! All I ask is that you credit my work when sharing.
Wishing all you wonderful teachers and educators a relaxing summer break – you’ve earned it!
